PAMPER Your Voice

Did you know that only 7% of meaning is communicated through the words that we use? 55% of meaning is conveyed through body language and 38% of meaning is conveyed through our tone of voice. Therefore it is the way in which we say things that creates impact. By paying attention to the 7 elements in the acronym PAMPERS you can maximise your voice tone by communicating effectively and positively in any situation.

Projection – By ensuring you stand up straight with your shoulders back and chin up you will find it easier to breathe and be able to project your voice clearly and energetically.

Articulation – Be sure to pronounce words clearly and ensure you string your sentences together in a flowing fluent way.

Modulation – Use appropriate tone and pitch to avoid monotony in what you are saying. Use pauses to emphasise key points and allow the chance for certain facts or figures to sink in for the audience to bring in to perspective.

Pronunciation – As well as ensuring day to day words are pronounced correctly, be sure to check the pronunciation of more adventurous words. If you do not feel comfortable using specific words, then may be think about substituting words you do feel comfortable with.

Enunciation – In addition to varying the tone of your voice to keep the audience interested, try to put emphasis on certain words, once again to emphasise an impressive fact or statistic.

Repetition – Where appropriate, you may like to repeat certain points to emphasise a certain point. A good way of doing this is to immediately after saying the statement for the first time, say it again but using different language or look at it from a different perspective.

Speed – This is a question of balance and is best established with plenty of practice. You want to keep the audience interested but you also want to allow them time to take in certain facts.
